Just last night, the National Speed Skating Oval of "Ice Ribbon" staged the Winter Olympics version of "Speed and Passion" again after a day of truce, opening the women's 5000m final contest. In the last group, the Dutch star Irene Schouten played well and skated 6 minutes, 43 seconds and 51 seconds to win the championship, at the same time, she set a new Olympic record that had been dusty for 20 years. At the same time, after the women's 3000m, Schouten once again put on a good show of "winning the gold medal and breaking the record" in the "Ice Ribbon", becoming the first speed skater to win two gold medals in the Beijing Olympic Winter Games.

The 5000m is the longest distance women's event in the Olympic Games, with 12 competitors. Chinese player Han Mei set out in the second group. After the starting gun was fired, Han Mei struggled forward, leading the national record in the first half. However, Han Mei obviously dropped speed in the second half, and the final result was 7 minutes, 08 seconds and 37 seconds, creating a new personal best result.

The climax of the competition was repeated in the last three groups. First, Czech veteran Martina Sablikova, who appeared in the fourth group, skated at a high level of 6 minutes, 50 seconds and 09 seconds, and then Canadian star Isabel Weidman, who appeared in the fifth group, went a step further and skated 6 minutes, 48 seconds and 18 seconds with excellent late acceleration, locking a medal before the last group appeared.

The strongest players appeared in the last group. The 3000-meter gold and silver medalist, the Dutch player Irene Schouten, and the Italian player Francesca Lollobrigida set out together. In the first half, the two players took the lead alternately, and the result was equal to that of Weidman. However, Schouten continued to accelerate in the second half, far ahead of Lollobrigida, and the final result was fixed at 6 minutes, 43 seconds and 51 seconds, which greatly broke the Olympic record set by Claudia Pechstein at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics (6 minutes, 46 seconds and 91 seconds).

What is the magic of the "ice ribbon" which is praised by the athletes as "the most perfect field"?

"Ice Ribbon" is the only newly-built ice competition venue in the Beijing Zone of Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and it is also the largest ice surface in Asia at present. Since its debut, the "Ice Ribbon" National Speed Skating Oval has been known as the venue that skaters dream of. "This is probably the best gym I've ever skated in my life," said Sweden's Nils van der Poel after winning in 6: 08.84.

How did the "Fastest ice surface" come into being?

The ice surface area of the National Speed Skating Oval is 12,000 square meters. To create the "Fastest ice" in such a large-scale site, the National Speed Skating Oval abandoned the traditional refrigeration method and innovatively adopted the carbon dioxide transcritical direct cooling ice-making technology. This technology is green and environmentally friendly, and can save about 2 million kw-hours of electricity a year. Since then, "Ice Ribbon" has become the first Winter Olympic speed skating venue in the world to adopt this technology. At the same time, it is also a very small number of speed skating venues for the Winter Olympic Games in the world.

"Carbon dioxide direct cooling ice-making technology can ensure that the ice surface temperature is constant and the ice surface quality is better.". The smaller the temperature difference is, the more uniform the hardness of the ice surface is; the smoother the ice surface is, the more favorable it is for performance. In addition, such ice-making process produces a large amount of high-quality waste heat, which can be used for hot water, ice pouring, dehumidification and other scenes in the venue. Compared with the traditional ice rink, the energy efficiency has been improved by more than 20%.
